Friends of the Rosary,
Today, the Feast day of St. Norbert, Bishop, Saturday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time, and the eve of the Solemnity of the Corpus Christi, we see in the Gospel (Mark 12:38-44), the contrast between the religious show and the hidden, total self-gift of the poor widow who gives everything by love.
“Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more
than all the other contributors to the treasury.
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth,
but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had,
her whole livelihood.”
St. Ambrose said, “No one gives more than she who has left nothing for herself.”
St. John Chrysostom, “Almsgiving is that of the Widow who emptied out all her living.”
St. Bede, “God does not weigh the property but the conscience of those who offer.”
