Friends of the Rosary,
In the Gospel today (Matthew 14:22-33), Peter walks on the water toward Jesus, doing what seems impossible, as he keeps his eyes on the Lord.
“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was, he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
We see in this passage how, when Peter noticed the wind, fear trapped him, and he began to sink.
That is very human. We begin with faith, but then fear gets loud: problems, weakness, uncertainty, family worries, money, health, temptation, the future. Peter’s prayer is simple: “Lord, save me.” And Jesus reaches out immediately.
When fear starts to pull us under, let’s call on Jesus. Faith is not pretending the storm is not real.
God often comes quietly, and faith means keeping our eyes on Jesus when fear rises.
