Friends of the Rosary,
Today, Saturday, the day of the Blessed Mother Mary, and the feast day of Saint Cosmas and Damian, Martyrs, we see Our Lord foretelling his imminent death (Luke 9:43b-45). He said to his disciples:
“Pay attention to what I am telling you.
The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
The disciples, while amazed at his every deed, were unable to understand the meaning of Jesus’ words. Luke the Evangelist writes,
“Its meaning was hidden from them
so that they should not understand it,
and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.”
Christ the Lord spoke frequently of his “hour,” the culmination of his life’s work, the mystery of the glorification through the cross.
He was sent by the Father for the assault on death through the crucifixion.
“As a parent would go anywhere in order to rescue his child, so God, the parent of the human race, went into the darkest reaches of body and soul in order to save us. And therefore this is the meaning of the cross: God is heartbroken love,” writes Bishop Barron today.
St. Paul explained (2 Timothy 1:10): “Our Savior Christ Jesus destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel.”
