Friends of the Rosary,
As we discover in the Book of Job today (1:6-22), a wealthy, righteous man named Job lost almost everything (his children, wealth, and health) due to a test allowed by God and instigated by “the adversary”. Yet Job didn’t turn against the Divinity. He had trust in the Lord with a child’s humility.
“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!,” he concluded.
In all this Job did not sin, nor did he say anything disrespectful of God.
And connected to this passage of the Book of Job — which is an ancient piece of wisdom literature in the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament that explores why innocent people suffer —, in the Gospel today (Luke 9:46-50), Jesus teaches that true greatness is found in humility and service, not status, and that we should not be jealous when others do good in His name.
Faithfulness means trusting God even when life becomes painful or confusing.
