Friends of the Rosary,
Today, the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we reflect on the parable of the landowner (Matthew 20:1-16a). Christ Jesus tells us that the kingdom of heaven is like this landowner. It’s the parable of the workers in the vineyard, with those hired late receiving the same full wage.
This can feel unfair until we realize the parable is not about human pay scales; it is about divine generosity. The Lord is generous in mercy and does not think as we do. His ways are higher than ours.
Therefore, we are invited not to measure God’s mercy with human jealousy. God is not less good to us because He is generous to someone else.
The invitation is to trust Him, seek Him now, and rejoice when grace reaches others too.
Another important teaching of today’s reading is how relentlessly Jesus himself goes out to find laborers. God takes the initiative in seeking us out. God chooses us despite our utter unworthiness. In truth, God is always giving us far more than we deserve, even in calling us to labor in his kingdom.
