Friends of the Rosary,
Today, Third Sunday of Easter, we read again the passage of the two disciples walking to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-15) with Our Lord opening the Scriptures to them — and to us — making our hearts burn while He speaks to us.
They heard the Scriptures interpreted in a way that had never occurred to them before. It is what they have been waiting to hear all their lives. It moves them to beg Jesus, “Stay with us.”
The words that speak of Christ’s Resurrection — “You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence”— are the same that revivified Peter himself.
How is it so? In their road to Emmaus, the disciples’ perception was clouded by grief and shock — while Christ showed his patience. In their confusion, they saw the necessity of Christ for true understanding.
Emmaus represents every Christian’s journey. Pope Benedict XVI explained how the narrative reflects modern faith crises, and how the story perfectly structures the Mass (Word + Eucharist), transforming deserters into witnesses.
