Friends of the Rosary,

We pray today’s Rosary from the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (Saint Mary Major), Rome’s largest and most significant Marian church and one of the Catholic Church’s four major papal basilicas.

Today, on the first Saturday of the month, the Gospel (Luke 16:9–15) teaches that faithfulness in small responsibilities reveals the character of the human heart.

The Lord said,

“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.”

Those who act honestly and responsibly in ordinary matters show they are ready for greater spiritual responsibilities.

Holiness is not measured by extraordinary achievements, but by fulfilling the duties entrusted to us each day.

Christ then warns that no one can serve both God and money.

“No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Material resources are not evil, but they become dangerous when they occupy the place that belongs to God.

The human heart cannot find lasting peace when divided between devotion to the Creator and an attachment to possessions, prestige, or financial security.

To the Pharisees, who loved money, Jesus said:

“God knows your hearts; for what is of human esteem is an abomination in the sight of God.”

The Lord invites us to cultivate an interior life grounded in truth, humility, and faithfulness, recognizing that God sees beyond appearances and judges the soul’s true intentions.

St. Augustine said earthly possessions must remain subordinate to the love of God. The heart discovers genuine freedom when it uses created things without becoming enslaved by them.

Holiness begins with faithfulness in the smallest things, and true spiritual freedom comes when God, rather than money or worldly recognition, occupies the center of our hearts.

Ave Maria!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!

Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
