Friends of the Rosary,
Today, November 8, in the liturgical celebration of the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Gospel (Matthew 25:1–13) highlights that the light of faith must be nourished daily through a life of love, prayer, and fidelity to Christ. It’s all about keeping the light of faith alive, burning through love and obedience!
Jesus presents the parable of the ten virgins awaiting the bridegroom. Five are wise and bring sufficient oil for their lamps, while five are foolish and find themselves unprepared when the bridegroom arrives.
The oil symbolizes the spiritual preparation that cannot be borrowed or improvised at the last moment. St. John Chrysostom emphasized that the oil represents the good works and mercy necessary for authentic Christian discipleship.
Christ the Lord reminds us that spiritual readiness requires more than good intentions; it demands a living faith sustained through prayer, charity, and perseverance.
We must cultivate our relationship with God personally through the countless choices that shape our lives. While others can guide, encourage, and pray for us, each person must ultimately respond to God’s grace with personal faithfulness.
Jesus concludes with a call to vigilance because we do not know the day or hour of our final encounter with Him, as the parable about the ten virgins in today’s Gospel speaks about waiting for the Lord’s second coming and the arrival of his kingdom. Christian watchfulness is not anxious speculation about the future but faithful attention to the present.
Religious appearances cannot replace the inner love that prepares the soul to encounter Christ.
Bishop Barron writes, “In a certain sense, Christianity is a religion of fulfillment. The Lord has come; the incarnation and the redemption have taken place. It’s happened. But, in another sense, Christianity is permanently a religion of waiting, because we wait in joyful hope for the second coming of the Lord. We wait until this salvation has been fulfilled.”
Ave Maria!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
